I know this is a simple story, but it means a lot to me.

My son, Payton, came home from school and said he had to write a letter to a celebrity in hopes of a response.  We spoke about the people who made an impression on him as an 11 year old.  Though we live in Ohio, we have followed and are huge fans of Duke basketball.  We had the opportunity to visit the University and step onto the empty court and the tradition.  Of course, after the experience, Payton has the desire to attend Duke University, and Coach K has become someone he has looked up to.  Therefore, he decided to write to Coach K.

Whenever your child is doing a project like this you prepare them for no response.  Most celebrities do not take the time to respond and have no idea how important it is to the children writing them.  Well, not Coach K.  He sent Payton a picture of him coaching with a handwritten, personal message.  Payton was thrilled opening the envelope and so excited to share what he received with his class.  It is now framed in his room.

Coach K made an impression on an 11 year old and increased his hopes of attending Duke University.

Thanks Coach K for being you.  It is amazing the time you spend with the fans and the community.  Duke University is so lucky to have such an upstanding man represent them on the court.
