I used to follow my brother’s team but when I saw you and Duke I found my team.
I just wanted to let you know that your camp helped me out so much. I have improved a lot since I went to camp there and now play ball for the community team. I thought I would try to send you this letter to show my appreciation.
I attended a Nike Coaches Clinic in Minneapolis, MN back in the early ’90′s. Coach K was a featured speaker. He spoke from the bball court dressed in warmups while we all sat in the bleachers. The informal nature of the presentation was great. Coach K gave his spiel and then opened it up for questions. Most notable was Coack K’s friendly, engaging, caring manner of interaction. He seemed (and is) so genuine. He reminded all of us that there is no one "patented" way to coach successfully, and to be confident in, and believe in, whatever it is that each of us does and how we do it. He emphasized the importance of TEAM and that the development of the character and integrity of the young athletes we coached would always be more important than the wins and losses. After the presentation, I waited until very few people were left in the gym and approached Coach K with a note page and asked him if he could sign something for my two sons. Immediately he asked, "what are their names?" On that note page he wrote "To Giles and Evan, Always Be Your Best!" Giles is now 20 and Evan is 17. Coach K’s words inspired both boys, and now their little brother Jace (12), to live their lives in that manner. He continues to inspire countless individuals throughout the country (and world) with his dedication to excellence and his genuine commitment to the well-being of others.
