Krzyzewski To Receive Capitol Broadcasting Company Sports Person of the Year Award

The Greater Raleigh Sports Council has announced Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski as the winner of its Capitol Broadcasting Company Sports Person of the Year Award.

Krzyzewski will be honored for his achievements both at Duke and with USA Basketball. This past summer he led the United States National Team to the gold medal at the summer Olympics in Beijing, China. While at Duke he has won three national championships and was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001.

The award will be presented to Krzyzewski tonight at the sixth annual Evening of Champions Awards Celebration. It will take place at the Embassy Suites Raleigh-Durham/Research Triangle from 5 to 9 p.m. East Carolina University head football coach, Skip Holtz, will be the keynote speaker. More than 400 people are expected to attend this event. The event will also include a silent auction benefiting the Greater Raleigh Sports Council.

Tickets may be purchased for $75 per Greater Raleigh Sports Council member and $125 per non-Greater Raleigh Sports Council member online at www.thesportscouncil.org.
