Coach K Set To Go For More Gold In ‘12

Even after coaching the United States to a gold medal in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, Mike Krzyzewski didn't feel like the job he'd done with the national team was complete. That's why he found himself in Las Vegas on Tuesday with USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo, announcing a second straight three-year tour of duty as the national team's coach. In addition to coaching Duke, Krzyzewski will direct Team USA in the 2010 world championships in Turkey and the 2012 Olympics in London. If the United States does not win the 2010 world championship, the team also will have to participate in an Olympic qualifying tournament in 2011.

Krzyzewski Speaks to Area Student-Athletes

Just about one year ago, Duke men’s basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski was gearing up for the “Road to Redemption.”

Krzyzewski, admiral of the “Redeem Team,” coached USA basketball back to the mountaintop of international hoops, and on August 24, 2008, an Olympic gold medal was placed over Krzyzewski’s head for the third time, the first coming as an assistant coach to a Michael Jordan-led 1984 team and the second as an assistant on the 1992 original “Dream Team.”

4 Team-Building Tips From Coach K

Legendary Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski told an audience of business executives how he builds winning teams. Here, from a panel discussion at the Milken Institute Global Conference in Los Angeles Monday, are a few of his pointers.

Leadership isn’t singular. No one leads alone, Krzyzewski says. When he was building the team that won gold at the Beijing Olympics, he relied on Lebron James, Jason Kidd and Kobe Bryant as the team’s “internal leaders.” They had tremendous sway on the rest of the team. “If they said it, it’s pretty much going to go,” he says.

Krzyzewski To Receive Capitol Broadcasting Company Sports Person of the Year Award

The Greater Raleigh Sports Council has announced Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski as the winner of its Capitol Broadcasting Company Sports Person of the Year Award.

Krzyzewski will be honored for his achievements both at Duke and with USA Basketball. This past summer he led the United States National Team to the gold medal at the summer Olympics in Beijing, China. While at Duke he has won three national championships and was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001.
