  • Krzyzewski Chosen For Induction Into Army Sports Hall of Fame

    Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski is among eight individuals who have been chosen for induction into the Army Sports Hall of Fame, the U.S Military Academy announced on Wednesday. A 1969 graduate, Krzyzewski was the team captain his senior season and helped the squad to two trips to the National Invitational Tournament. He took over as head coach in 1975 and posted a 73-59 mark during his five-year tenure. Among the highlights of his time on the West Point sidelines was a trip to the NIT in 1978, Army’s most recent berth in that prestigious tournament.

    Just about one year ago, Duke men’s basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski was gearing up for the “Road to Redemption.”

    Krzyzewski, admiral of the “Redeem Team,” coached USA basketball back to the mountaintop of international hoops, and on August 24, 2008, an Olympic gold medal was placed over Krzyzewski’s head for the third time, the first coming as an assistant coach to a Michael Jordan-led 1984 team and the second as an assistant on the 1992 original “Dream Team.”

  • Krzyzewski To Receive Capitol Broadcasting Company Sports Person of the Year Award

    The Greater Raleigh Sports Council has announced Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski as the winner of its Capitol Broadcasting Company Sports Person of the Year Award.

    Krzyzewski will be honored for his achievements both at Duke and with USA Basketball. This past summer he led the United States National Team to the gold medal at the summer Olympics in Beijing, China. While at Duke he has won three national championships and was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001.

You have to adapt what you do based on who you are. In teaching, you must remember that no group or individual is the same as who you taught the day before, the year before, or the decade before. Your plan has to suit who you and your team are right now.

We win and we lose together. Handling the responsibility for wins and losses together removes the burden from one individual’s shoulders and distributes it among each member of the team. That atmosphere is conducive to high-level performance and places you and your team in the position to be bold and unafraid, and if you should lose, you are not alone.

When you are winning, your commitment is never challenged. But loyalty and dedication during difficult times can be tough. When commitment doesn’t waver, that’s when you have the greatest chance of winning. You can never give up.

Take care not to allow one aspect of your life to so consume you that you neglect the others. Balance can put things in perspective, can bring you joy even when you are down, and can allow you to be at your best in all aspects of your life.
